Semantron is the solo project of Dave French, a multi-instrumentalist known for his work as drummer of Yob and as guitar, bass, synth, and percussions in the live ensembles of Steve Von Till (Neurosis). French has also produced an album for HBS, the solo project by Ben Shepherd of Soundgarden.
"Secrets of a Krummholz Heart was assembled from songs written across years of touring and travel, shaped in backstages, hotel rooms, ferry crossings, remote landscapes, and quiet moments on the road. In the winter of 2023, I retreated to an off-grid cabin at the foot of Mount Adams, a conical volcano in Washington State to begin recording the album’s foundations. I performed all of the instruments myself, melding acoustic and electric textures with field recordings of ravens, owls, wind in the trees, rivers, stone percussion from high mountain talus slopes, rhythms played on living trees, the dripping of meltwater from an Icelandic glacier, and on the logs of the cabin itself.
The result is a collection of deeply personal music and songs that I’m honored to share with you."
