New Jersey crew Monster Magnet hit a crucial early stride with Superjudge, first out in 1993 and now again via Spinefarm as a double LP reincarnation. Between the divine Spine Of God and the later, stoner rock streamliner Dopes To Infinity, it's the moment Dave Wyndorf's crazed creative whirlwind entered a slower, thicker dust cloud in 'Twin Earth', 'Cage Around The Sun', and 'Elephant Bell'; riffs reemerging as as narcotic-somnolent as they were already weighty and unimpeachable. Mixed at The Magic Shop in New York with Steve Rosenthal, that connect assures a sound tipped further in space rock hypnosis than outright metal force. Spinefarm's reissue folds in studio scraps and live cuts from the era, nodding to the band's cult following in Scandinavia, where the label later found a suprise but natural home for their catalogue.
