After the industrial-leaning She Reaches Out (2024), Chelsea Wolfe's ninth album strips it back to notes of witchy, montane folk. Led by the eponymous lead single 'The Dark', we see the American singer-songwriter in full dark enchantress dress, posing in front of crags, tarns and boulder-pits, as acoustic guitar progressions pulsate against the breathiest version of her voice we've heard in a while. The full record was written, by her own account, out of newfound sobriety and an unsparing assessment of self: "who's this that I've become now", goes one line, as she describes as growing older without repeating the past.
